Australian Values Social Media Guidelines

  • This is the official Website for Australian Values.
  • Australian Values are:
    • respect for the freedom and dignity of the individual;
    • freedom of religion (including the freedom not to follow a particular religion), freedom of speech, and freedom of association;
    • commitment to the rule of law, which means that all people are subject to the law and should obey it;
    • parliamentary democracy whereby our laws are determined by parliaments elected by the people, those laws being paramount and overriding any other inconsistent religious or secular “laws”;
    • equality of opportunity for all people, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, race, or national or ethnic origin;
    • a ‘fair go’ for all that embraces:
      • mutual respect;
      • tolerance;
      • compassion for those in need;
      • equality of opportunity for all;
    • the English language as the national language, and as an important unifying element of Australian society.
  • This page is a space for truth, trust, and togetherness, allowing Australian communities to come together and enhance Australia’s inclusive national identity, sense of belonging, and shared appreciation of our values.
  • Community engagement is welcome, but must be in line with Australian Values. So:
    • Be respectful, polite, and accepting of difference;
    • Don’t incite hatred on the basis of any personal characteristics, including on the basis of race, gender, marital or domestic status, disability, sexuality or age;
    • Don’t post anything illegal;
    • Don’t post anything abusive, hateful or that could defame any person or organisation;
    • Don’t post spam, advertising, or automated replies.
  • We want relevant conversations; please stay on topic.
  • Users further agree to:
    • Protect their personal privacy and that of others by not including personal information about themselves or others in their posts (such as names, email addresses, private addresses or phone numbers).
