A message from the 2021 Australian Local Heroes (English)

Natasha Johnson:

To all new Australian citizens, I just want to say, welcome to the greatest nation on earth.

Timothy Miller:

The message that I would give all new Australians, is to be very proud of the culture that you brought with you, very proud of the history and the family that is within you, but look for a way to give back to your community.

The best thing about people who have chosen a new country, and have come here, and are starting off on a relatively new platform, is that they can bring the best of what they got inside them and their culture and introduce that into ours and the best part of our Australia is that there is so many different types of people and we are really unique in that way.

Dr Kirby White:

Welcome to Australia. A nation full of communities who are willing to put their hand up and support others, in times of need.

Edna Pennicott OAM:

Try do something nice for someone every day, just might be a smile, or a hello, but just something simple can change someone’s life.

Sergeant Erica Gibson:

Australia is the land of opportunity, you can do anything, it’s the best place in the world to live, it’s just the best place to be.

Rosemary Kariuki:

Australian Values means to me, to be true to myself, do the right things, and be respect, respect each other. Australians are wonderful people, let’s come and embrace that culture, let’s be part of them, let us not just keep in silos.

Natasha Johnson:

Australian Values means to me, supporting one another, just being there for each other, when you see someone down and out, you just, you get in and help, you roll up your sleeves, and help them, and get them through, whatever it is they’re going through at the time, and supporting them.

Timothy Miller:

Australian Values mean to me is simply giving, being kind, and helping out other people. It’s looking out for the little guy, it’s looking out for someone that needs, not a handout, but just a hand up, and also it means about being very proud of where you’ve come from, because Australia, we have a rich rich history that stretches back over 60 thousand years. So, regardless of if your family has been here for 200 years or two weeks, we all have responsibility to look after our planet.

Dr Kirby White:

Australian Values mean to me, a willingness to help others in a time of need and provide a great sense of community.

Sergeant Erica Gibson:

Australian Values are the core to being in Australia and being Australian.

Rebecca Prince-Ruiz:

Australian Values are really focused on care and kindness, and that’s care for each other, and this beautiful country that we live in.

Natasha Johnson:

Being an active person in my community is hopefully inspiring others to do great work and do things to help other people and support them.

Timothy Miller:

The most important part about being an active citizen, is being able to see what skills, what talents, what kindness you have within yourself that you can offer for your community.
